Farmer's forgery

On 17 March 1926, Mukinbudin farmer Alfred Maggs was tried for forgery at the Perth Supreme Court. Maggs was accused of forging the signature of blacksmith Vincent Anslow on a cash order drawn on the Minister of Agriculture. Anslow said he believed Maggs took advantage of him because he was a 'new chum', recently arrived from England. Maggs was found guilty and sentenced to two years hard labour.
